Joseph Page Burns age 86 of Asheboro died Monday, July 3, 2017, his family by his side.

Joe was born October 17, 1930, the son of Otis and Irene Welborn Burns.

After graduating from Ramseur High School in 1948, he attended a local business college, earning a degree in business management. Joe was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean conflict. After service, he worked with Stedman Manufacturing in Asheboro as Vice President of Operations until he retired. An avid golfer, Joe spent much of his leisure time on the course at Pinewood Country Club, where he was a member since the 1970s. He was also known to catch a fish or two, and enjoyed traveling with his wife Irene. Together they saw most of the country, and many of its national and state parks.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wives, Lucy H. Burns who died in 1981, and Irene R. Burns who died in 2014. Also preceding Joe in death were sisters, Betty Barker and husband Frank of Ramseur, Nancy Gee of Siler City, and Mary Lee Ward of Asheboro. In addition to his sisters, Joe was preceded in death by his stepdaughter-in-law, Ellie Welborn, of Trinity.

Joe is survived by his sister, Kathryn Nichols and husband Dale of Ramseur; brother-in-law's, Mack Gee of Siler City, and Clifton Ward of Asheboro; stepdaughter, Sandra Welborn and partner John Bolton of Asheboro; stepsons, Joseph Welborn of Sophia, and David Welborn and wife Linda of Pinnacle; step grandchildren; Brandon Welborn and wife Ashley of High Point, Chris Welborn of High Point, Matthew Welborn of Boston, MA, Adam Welborn and partner Nikki Rhea of Trinity, Gray Taylor and partner Rain Hall of Siler City, and Drew Taylor of Brooklyn, NY; great grandchildren, Harper Welborn, daughter of Brandon and Ashley Welborn, Ellie May Welborn, daughter of Adam Welborn and Nikki Rhea, and Auki and Ari Taylor, daughter and son of Gray Taylor and Rain Hall.

Joe's family is deeply grateful to Ann Louya, his caregiver and companion, for her loving care and devotion to the end. We will all miss Joe.
