James Donald Gaster

Mr. Gaster was born October 13, 1939, the son of Jamie and Myrtle Johnson Gaster. Don was a native of Randolph County. He was a graduate of Randleman High School's class of 1958 and of Guilford Technical Community College. He was honorably discharged after four years of service from the United States Air Force. Don was an active member of Marlboro Friends Meeting in Sophia. He retired from AT&T & Lucent Technologies after 40 years of service as an engineer. He served on the Randleman High School Athletic Booster Club and the NC Friends Disaster Services where he traveled on many mission trips to rebuild following natural disasters. Don was honored in 2017 by being inducted into Randleman High School's Athletic Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements in football, basketball, baseball and track. Don is survived by his wife, Judith Davis Gaster; children, Kim Gaster Poteate and husband Ken of Harrisburg, NC, Kristy Gaster Leung and husband Andy of Greensboro, NC, Casey Davis Gaster and Halcie Blanche Gaster both of Archdale. Grandchildren; Taylor Poteate, Emma and Drew Leung. Brother; Tommy Gaster and wife Faye of Ramseur, NC. The memorial service will be held Saturday, October 13, at 2 p.m. at Marlboro Friends Meeting, 2668 Marlboro Church Rd, Sophia, NC 27350. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church meeting room. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Marlboro Friends Meeting, 2668 Marlboro Church Rd, Sophia, NC 27350 and Friends Church of NC designated to NC Friends Disaster Services, 4811 Hilltop Rd, Greensboro, NC 27407.
