Gary Allen Sowards

Gary Allen Sowards, age 73, of, Mt. Gilead, NC passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Mr. Sowards was born October 12, 1945 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Hobart Sowards and Sylvia Forstner Sowards.

He was retired from W.R. Grace Inc. as a Plant Manager after 48 years. Gary was a kind, giving, hard-working man who enjoyed watching his hummingbirds and wildlife, fixing electronics, and playing video games.

Gary is survived by his wife: Roma Sowards; daughters: Cindy Torres (Steve) of Brandywine, MD, Kathy Thorpe (Jay) of Glen Burnie, MD, Christina Weaver (Pete) of Crownsville, MD, Gloria Sowards of Glen Burnie, MD, Pam Powell of Hanover, PA, Khrista Britt (Terrell) of High Falls, NC and Laura Rose of Mt. Gilead, NC; son: Adam Hussey (Fiance' Wendy Greene) of Mt. Gilead, NC; mother: Sylvia Sowards; sisters: Karen Mayo of Pasadena, MD and Gail Bolton (Dave) of Annapolis, MD; brothers: Bruce Sowards (Robin) of Troy, NC and Billy Sowards (Kathy) of Mt. Gilead, NC; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, "Doc" Sowards and sister, Charlotte Isaac.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, 2019 from 11:00 AM - 12:45 PM at Prospect Baptist Church, 2889 River Road, Troy, NC. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Lee Fish officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Troy.
