Buford W. Knight

Buford W. Knight, age 86, of Troy died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Knight was born January 20, 1932 in Dublin, GA the son of the late Charlie Knight and the late Viver Roland Knight. He was a loyal loving father and husband. He lived serving others as noted with his 25 years in the military and 35 years in law enforcement. He served with Montgomery County Sheriff's Department for 27 years and as Chief of Police in Mt. Gilead for 8 years.

Mr. Knight was a member of the Army and served in the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Special Forces and Golden Knights Parachute Team. He retired from the military as a Chief Warrant Officer III.

He is survived by one son: Bruce W. Knight of New London, NC; and one daughter, Patricia K. Penley and husband, John, of Troy, NC; grandchildren: Jacob East (Ashli), William East (Shana), Tonya Garrison (Jonathan), Karen Bowles (Jeremy), Melanie Wright (Daniel), and Brandon Knight; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother: Euthan Knight, Dudley, GA; one sister: Frances Dixon, East Dublin, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel L. Knight, and a son, Ronald Knight.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy, NC. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 at White Crest Baptist Church, 1051 River Road, Mt. Gilead with Rev. Ken McRae officiating. Burial will be in White Crest Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Gilead.

The family would like to express their appreciation to his special caregiver, Shana Allmon, for her care and devotion to their loved one during his time with Hospice.
