Carl Edward Jordan, age 87, Asheboro died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro. Mr. Jordan was born July 1, 1928 the son of Samson Harrison and Annie Pearl Stegall Jordan. Carl was a native of Alamance County and graduated from Graham High School in 1945. He served for a brief period, in 1949, with the US Navy aboard the USS Boxer as a journalist. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and moved to Asheboro in the 1950's. Early in his career he was involved in theater management in Burlington, Winston-Salem and High Point. He then had a long career with First National Bank of Asheboro and retired as Assistant Vice-President in March of 1988. He was involved in many community organizations serving as Chairman for: The Heart Fund, March of Dimes, Easter Seals, Cancer Crusade, and Christmas Cheer. He was on the boards of: Regional Consolidated Services, United Way, The Arts Guild and was the 1962 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. He was also a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Asheboro. Carl also served as a docent at the NC Zoo. He was affiliated with the First Baptist Churches of Graham, Winston-Salem and Asheboro and with the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Asheboro. Carl was well known in all the communities where he lived and will be greatly missed. He is survived by two nieces, Ben Nita McAdam, Mt Pleasant, SC, Judy Morris, Durham, and three nephews, William H. Patterson, Floyd, VA, John L. Patterson, Daytona Beach and Dale H. Jordan of Concord, and his longtime loving and devoted friend Jenny Cole. He was predeceased by four sisters and one brother: Myrtle J. Black, Lucile J. Stevens, Helen J. Patterson, Ophelia J. Bennett and J. Harrison Jordan. Vernon Thomason, his soulmate for many years predeceased him. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 1:00-2:00PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro. A reception will follow the burial at New Hope Bereavement Center, 137 South Park Street, Asheboro. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to any of the above organizations.
