Dr. Turner Stephen Davis, 92, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, Georgia. He was a resident of Somerby of Peachtree City, Georgia. Dr. Davis was born in Sanford, North Carolina on March 10, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Stephen Davis and Sarah Ann Fuquay Davis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pines Allen Davis, and his siblings: Addie Mae Davis Dismukes, Maggie Alice Davis Pigford, Myrtle Lura Davis Moreland, Ethel Leola Davis, Jesse Wilson Davis, Grace Ellen Davis Harris, Lola Evelyn Davis Branch and William Harris Davis. He is survived by his second wife, Sybil Lee Mobley Tomlin Davis, and three step children: Christopher Ray Tomlin (Wylene), Stephen Craig Tomlin (Amy), and Wanda Jane Tomlin Liles (Wayne), five step grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren, and his sister, Annie Doris Davis Willet. He is survived by three children, Allen Stephen Davis (Kay), Douglas Philip Davis (Pam), and Karen Denise Davis Krajeski (Bobby), five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Turner Davis enjoyed a rich life. He attended Wingate College on baseball scholarship for one year before being drafted into the military. He served his country as Signalman for the U.S. Navy on four ships in World War II. Following service in the Navy during World War II, he graduated from North Carolina State University. After relocating to Griffin from North Carolina, he worked as a researcher for the University of Georgia Experiment Station in Griffin, developing the Virginia Pine as a Christmas tree industry. He served the community as a Kiwanian for many years, and was Griffin Kiwanis Club President (1983-84) and Lt. Governor of the 12th Division of the Georgia District (1993-94). In 1968 Davis earned his doctorate of jurisprudence from John Marshall University. Following retirement from the Georgia Experiment Station, he practiced law as a second career. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Griffin in various positions, including service as a deacon and choir member. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to Alzheimer's Association, 1841 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30329, to the First Baptist Church Griffin Memorial Fund, 106 W. Taylor Street, Griffin, Georgia 30224, or to a favorite charity in memory of Dr. Davis. To pay condolences to the family, please do so on Monday, April 18th from noon until 2 p.m. at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home in Griffin. A funeral service will be conducted beginning immediately following visitation in the Haisten McCullough Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Bill Hardee is officiating. Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Rd. is in charge of arrangements. The family will also receive friends Wednesday April 20, 2016 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy, NC. Funeral services will follow in the Pugh-Troy Chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy has the honor of assisting the Davis Family with local services.
