Georgia Blake Pridgen, 97, of Troy, NC, died on December 2, 2016, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. A lifelong Troy resident, Georgia was born on June 14, 1919, to Clovis Ralph Blake and May Allen Blake, also Montgomery County natives.
She was married to Thornwell Connelly Pridgen on October 21, 1943. Connie, a native of Dunn, NC, who trained as an artist in Rochester, NY, died in 1992 following a successful career in painting oil portraits.
Georgia is survived by her two sons in Charlotte: Eugene C. Pridgen and wife, Jamie, and A. Wade Pridgen and wife, Angela; also by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Troy High School as salutatorian of her class, Georgia completed a business course and worked in an office in town for many years. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Troy throughout her life and was a charter member of the Troy Woman's Club and the local VFW Auxiliary chapter, both organized in 1947.
Georgia was known for her kind, friendly spirit; her stories of growing up in the 1920s and '30s in her parents' boarding house on Main Street; her zest for travel near and far; and her extraordinary health and vigor until near the end of her life. She and her three older sisters (Millie Arscott, Leona Page and Myrtle Carbone) were a familiar sight together in the community for decades.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9, at the First Baptist Church in Troy. The family will receive friends at the church during the hour before the service.
Pugh-Troy Funeral Home is serving the Pridgen Family.
