Dr. Maxine Haffner Cox, age 88, of 100 Carolina Meadows Drive, Chapel Hill died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Mrs. Cox was born July 2, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late C. O. and the late Bessie (Fisher) Haffner.

Dr. Cox was a native of Crawfordsville, IN and a retired Optometrist. She was a graduate of Purdue University and the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Maxine was an artist and member of the PI BETA PHI Sorority. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son: James R. Cox, II of Pittsboro, NC; Granddaughter, Darcy Cox of Washington, DC; one sister: Phyllis H. Furrer of Reynolds, IN.

A memorial graveside service will be Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11:00 am at Chatham Memorial Park,,13260 Hwy 64 West, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating.
