Hazel Ann Cox Fields, 70, peacefully passed away on February 27, 2010 at her home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

A 11:00 am graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City for immediate family and friends. A Lee County native, Hazel was born October 13, 1939 to James and Mary Kate Willett Cox, both deceased. Hazel worked as a nurse for over 25 years before retiring in 2008. She enjoyed reading, knitting, making jewelry and crafting birdhouses. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Beal.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, (Buck) Fields. Also, surviving one daughter, Laura and husband, Mike Nix of Shallotte, NC; sons, Gregg Fields and wife, Kris of McLeansville, NC; and Rick Fields and wife, Debbie of Siler City; grandchildren are, Sara Nix, Grayson Fields, Aubrey Fields, Mattie Fields and Adam Fields. In addition, she is survived by sisters, Elsie Smith of Hillsborough, NC, Rachel Smith of Siler City, Opal Masood of Concord, NC and brother, Mike Beal of Kinston, NC. The family will receive friends Monday, March 1, 2010 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC.
