John W. Brown was born in Calhoun Falls, SC on January 5, 1928. His family later moved to Elbert County, Georgia. He graduated from Nancy Hart High School in 1945.

He served in the U S Navy at the end of World War II, and married the former Mae J. Dickson on March 5, 1948. He enjoyed a long and successful career in business. He was the president of Artistic Ornamental Iron Company, Artsteel, and several real estate development and insurance ventures. He was also the founding president of the National Ornamental Metal Manufacturer's Association.

Mr. Brown was a man of deep Christian faith. He was an elder and the assembly's treasurer at the North Atlanta Bible Chapel for over 50 years.

Because of his lifetime achievements in both business and Christian service, Mr. Brown was elected the president and trustee of the Stewards Foundation, a national Christian service organization.

Memorial services will be held at Pittsboro Christian Village at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 30th, and the North Atlanta Bible Chapel at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 1, 2009.

Mr. Brown is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mae Dickson Brown. He is also survived by two brothers, Billy Ray Brown and Sherman Brown; two sisters, Nita Hill and Vicky Johnson; children, Sharon Sherrer, Susan Rubin, Carolyn Talley, Dickson Brown; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
