Joan Woodell, age 67, of 1802 Grantville Lane, Lot #8, Asheboro died Friday, October 23, 2009 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.  She was the daughter of the late Flora and Harrison Brown.

Mrs. Woodell, known by everyone as "Granny Jo" was a native of Moore County and grew up in Robbins. She was a seamstress with B. J. Consoles of Asheboro and was of the Methodist faith. Joan was an excellent seamstress, making custom western shirts and bridal gowns. She loved crocheting and decorating. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Woodell and Bobby Heaton, Sr., and a grandson, Jeremy Gerald Martindale. Joan's two cats, Nubby and Ollie were her two spoiled boys.

She is survived by two daughters: Mary "Chris" Everwine and husband, David of Siler City, NC, Terry Bowman of Siler City, NC and two sons: Jeff Lautzenheiser and wife, Diane of Braselton, GA, Bobby Wayne Heaton, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Siler City, NC: one sister: Dixie of Leaf River, IL; 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC.

The funeral will be Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Sue Flippin officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Baptist Church Cemetery.
